Week 4 Response Paper
Choose one of the following prompts to complete for your response paper this week.
1. After reviewing this weeks resource on style and tone (under the Online Learning Resources heading), consider one text from either Week 3 or Week 4 to discuss. If you had to name the authors style, what would you call it and why? Give examples from the text in your discussion. Show how the style and/or tone (as well as related terms like point-of-view or word choice) helps to inform the meaning of the story as a whole.
2. Pick one story from Week 3 or 4 and discuss its theme. How is that theme developed in the story? What tools does the author use to present the theme? Try to incorporate at least three literary terms (from the Week 1 Online Learning Resource) in your discussion and remember to use examples from the text in your argument.
Looking over all the stories weve read in weeks 1-4, choose one* to discuss through the lens of a single literary theory (refer to the Literary Theories Defined resource from Week 3 for a refresher). Why did you choose the theory you did? How does it illuminate the text in a new or different way? Once you respond to these questions, develop a new argument about the text (like the ones discussed in the and Literary Theories Applied resource in Week 3). Make sure to incorporate quotes from the text to support your argument. *** Note: make sure to choose a text that you did not already write about for your first response paper back in week 2.*** FEEL FREE TO USE ONE OF THE READING ATTACHED FOR THIS WEEK.
