Basically going off my other post I’m finding more
and more theories in childhood movies. Nemo
himself challenges his father’s rules by going to
touch the boat but this is because he was
pressured by his friends. He also has a fin
deformity making him already deviant in a way
that he has to be careful when swimming and
such. He is peer pressured by his friends. He
conforms to the things his friends are telling him
to prove that he isn’t scared. I am struggling to
find a category that he would fit in, so if someone
has any thoughts on it please let me know!

Ok here are my thoughts on characters under
Merton’s theory:
Nemo: Rebel. Although his friends were the one
who pressured him to do so, he still touched
the butt to show he was braver and cooler than
his peers. He also went against
institutionalized norms by breaki
and touching the butt

One of the common issues is Alcohol behavior
and advertainment on Netflix, in other movies
and an billboards around the road. The
companies are trying to sell alcohol and
advertise their product as something fantastic
where you can get a superpower. In reality, the
companies doesn’t care that alcohol can cost
someone a life and the family pain. How many
people had been hurt or passed away from
alcohol? There is a significant numbers and every
day those numbers goes up.
Also, the Alcoholism is one of the form of deviant
behavior. It can go to addiction which is from
drinking to gambling to sex. Can involve socially
acceptable behavior or socially deviant behavior.
Having a drink or two after work is a socially
acceptable form of alcohol use; getting drunk
and then attempting to drive home is considered
deviant behavior.

It is amazing the mass impact marketing has
had over years for alcohol- as far back as when
Socrates was alive. People are seen as deviants
if they do not partake. A lot of it I believe links.

I find the prompt of making “good trouble” very
interesting as it’s something I try to do in my own
life. I’m an elementary education major and have
to work within the current education system,
however I’m also co-president of the Arizona
Aspiring Educators Association, which is part of
the largest union in the country. With this making
good trouble is the job description, and part of
the community. This is an organization that
participates in walk outs like the Red for Ed
movement back in 2018 (that I actually helped
with). I also hope to continue making good
trouble and pushing for change as I help work on
a campaign to get paid student teaching
nationally and as I fight for change in education.
I’m not really sure where this type of action falls
within Merton’s groupings. I think it would be
innovation but I’d love to hear where you all think
this type of action and activism fall, as well as
what other good trouble you’ve made!

Home / My Communities Differential Association Theory LTE O WEEK 2: DEVIANCE THEORIES Mya Hinckley Yesterday at 11:16 PM MST K Working in retail, at a mall, I have to deal with a crap ton of just annoying high school aged kids. What has started to stand out to me is how different some kids with interact with me when they are alone, compared to when their friends are next to them as well. I had a kid come in with his friends and when he found a record he wanted he snuck over to the counter and was very polite and patient while I had trouble with the register. Then his friends came over and were boing very loud and disrespectful towards me, at which point he started acting the same way. While this isn't a representation of criminal behavior, I believe it represents how differential association theory can be extremely powerful. It also shows how the boy didn't want to be the 'odd one out' or the deviant of his in-group, even though he knew he didn't actually want to be disrespectful. < Comment CREATE P
