Case study:
This project examines the case of Chloe, an 8-year-old African American female currently in foster care after being removed from her biological mothers home due to substantiated physical and sexual abuse. Chloe was subjected to abuse from ages 5 to 8 before her removal. She is now presenting symptoms consistent with trauma, including severe distress when separated from her caregivers, social withdrawal, crying, anxiety, fingernail chewing, and falling behind academically. Her teachers also note challenges in socializing with peers. The proposed therapeutic intervention for Chloes case is play therapy. This project will specifically investigate if various forms of play therapy are effective at treating trauma symptoms in child survivors of sexual abuse.
