Assessing Group Process Discussion Questions

Assessing Group Process Discussion Questions

Assignment: Assessing Group Process 4: Group Project Goals
As a clinical social worker, evaluating the  effectiveness of clinical strategies is an expectation of the NASW Code  of Ethics (2017). Sometimes, clinical strategies and techniques that are  effective in one setting may not work in another situation. It is  important to understand what works and what doesn’t.
Also, self-assessment is an integral part of becoming a clinical social worker.

Assessing Group Process
Strengths of the Group
Collaboration has been the main strength of the group. Normally, collaboration has
always been impactful for those people who choose to work as a team. To put it clearly, working
collaboratively allows the members of the team to work quicker and become more effective in
their work. In my group, collaboration has been meaningful in a way that it allowed the members
to learn new perspective as well as opportunities that promote learning growth as well as
development. I admit that this strength has contributed to the growth in knowledge and this has
been because of accommodating the ideas, thoughts, as well as the perspectives of my
teammates. Collaboration in the group has been achieved through a group chat on WhatsApp and
so, the members have been utilizing this social media as a platform to interact as well as share
their thoughts and ideas. So, the strength in my group following the discussions has been
working collaboratively.
Weaknesses of the Group
With the focus on the weaknesses, communication has been the prime constraint in the
group. Certainly, this has been because of the distance among the peers as well as varying time
zones that contributed to delays in communication. While the entire group gets affected because
of delayed communication, the team members based in areas that are behind time are the most
affected because they feel guilty for making late communications and this makes them feel as
they are dragging the efforts of the group. Regardless of the constraint, the group is composed of
a good communicator who understands the background of the problem affecting the group.
Nevertheless, by working conjointly, it was necessary to brainstorm as a group to come up with
the ultimate solution for managing the concern (References and Salmon, 2004).

Strategies for Assisting the Group Process
The issue of communication delay in the group can be addressed by engaging some
strategies. One of the strategies entails engaging effective communication which is more than
exchanging information. Effective communication is a strategy that can be engaged in the group
necessarily by engaging the thoughts, ideas, and knowledge as well as information in a way that
the intent is ascertained. Certainly, this can be possible by ensuring that each member of the
group communicates the time zone in his or her respective area and after that craft a plan that
guides the members on the deadline they should present their information based on the time
zones in their areas. The second strategy entails cohesion which accounts for the success of the
group alongside promoting motivation among the team members (References and Salmon,
2004). Based on this strategy, the members of the group will have to understand their roles in the
group, the overall goal of the group, in conjunction with developing trust towards each member
of the group to ensure that each member presents his or her contribution in the group. Other
strategies that can help to address the issue affecting the group are social integration in
conjunction with group development. Through social integration, the group members can help
the members who are particularly affected by the time zones of their respective areas. This will
also challenge the members to engage the strategy of group development that will challenge the
members to create an association and focus on working collaboratively to ascertain the common
goal.
Implementing the Strategy
From the aforementioned strategies, the strategy that will be implemented in my group
entails group development. This is a strategy that will be implemented by choosing to work as a
team and challenge the members in the group to work towards ascertaining the common goal.

Bearing in mind that communication has been the chief problem, in that a section of the
members communicated late following different time zones. To manage the constraint by
engaging the strategy, the members of the group will craft a plan to come up with a standard time
when the members can present their information to restrict a section of the members from
presenting their information late (Yang, 2017).
