Overview of Module 1: Introduction and Overview of ABA Best Practices
Schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) is a vital strategy for creating a safe and positive school environment promoting social and academic success. Operating within the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework, SWPBIS consists of three tiers of support and prioritizes early intervention through regular screening and data-driven decision-making. It relies on evidence-based practices and emphasizes creating supportive environments, instructing prosocial skills, and reinforcing appropriate behavior. SWPBIS is widely adopted and has been shown to reduce discipline issues, enhance school safety, improve student behavior and academic outcomes, and reduce teacher burnout. This module provides an overview of SWPBIS and its foundational principles, setting the stage for a deeper exploration of its components and applications.
